I know you’ve heard it before. And I know that because we have said it ourselves many times. Dealing with dry skin sometimes can feel like everyone has an opinion.
But the one I hear the most is “Always read your ingredient labels”.
Sure you know that. But what exactly should you be looking for?
What exactly should you be avoiding? I am not sure anyone ever tells you that. So that general piece of advice falls flat on its face.
Today we are going to give you 3 ingredients you should consider including in your skin care products. And 3 that you should consider avoiding.
But we are not all about you going out and wasting your money either. So we are going to give you 3 things you can start doing at home today to help alleviate dry skin.
Let's get to it.

3 ingredients you need to consider including in your skincare routine.
Acids - Acids are good to include. But we recommend you look into hyaluronic acids for their ability to hold 1000 times its weight in water, making them the ideal acid to use when you're looking for hydration and moisture for your skin.
Oils - Many oils are good for your skin. Our top choice is Jojoba Oil. This liquid is the most similar to our body's sebum.
Butter - Different types of butter can have different effects. Our butter choice is Shea Butter for its power to coat the skin in ideal and beneficial oils needed to keep the skin malleable and hydrated.
But what about the ingredients you should avoid?
3 ingredient you need to consider avoiding in your skincare routine.
Alcohol - any products containing alcohol are surely going to be drying out your skin quicker than a hot summer day. Try to avoid any products that contain alcohol in them.
Fragrances - don’t get me wrong I am not telling you to go completely scentless in your products. I am only telling you to avoid products with fragrances in them as fragrances are hormone disruptors that will irritate and dry your skin. Instead, opt for essential oils.
Retinols - When used incorrectly, retinol can cause dryness and irritation. Make sure that before you use them you know how much to use and how often.
Now, I get it. You can’t exactly just drop all kinds of money on replacing your skincare products but you want relief now.
So what can you do?
Here are 3 things you can start doing today to help with dry skin.
Drink more water - This seems like an obvious one but then why do we start our day with coffee instead of water? Why do we choose soda instead of water for lunch? And why end the day with alcohol instead of water if what you seek is more hydrated skin?
Take colder showers - Warm showers are nice hot showers are dangerous. Hot water has been known to wash off all the oils that your skin needs to be hydrated and maintain its elasticity. Colder water has not been known to wash these oils off and promote skin cell turnover.
Exercise more - There has been a small correlation between exercise and more hydrated skin. But let's be clear that there have been no direct links yet. We are including this because we believe in overall wellness and exercise plays a very important role in our overall wellness. This in turn will show itself in our skin health leading to more supple hydrated skin.
So there you have it. Make educated decisions with your information. Remember. It's not about skincare. It’s about feeling comfortable in the skin you’re in.
